Parks In & Around Charlotte

Charlotte and its surrounding areas are blessed with an abundance of parks and green spaces that cater to all interests and preferences. Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation, or a chance to connect with nature, the parks in and around Charlotte provide the perfect setting to enjoy the great outdoors. So, pack your picnic basket, put on your hiking shoes, and get ready to explore the beauty of Charlotte’s parks.

Freedom Park

One of the most popular parks in Charlotte is Freedom Park, located just minutes from Uptown. This expansive park spans over 98 acres and offers a picturesque setting with its lush green lawns, towering trees, and a beautiful lake. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the walking trails, have a picnic with family and friends, or rent a paddleboat to explore the tranquil waters. The park also hosts various events and festivals throughout the year, making it a hub of activity and a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike.

An Abundance of Parks

  Whether you are a nature lover, fitness enthusiast, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, Charlotte and its surrounding communities has a park or greenway that will suit your taste for the outdoors!  Here is a list of some of the favorite parks:

First Ward Park is a 4.6 acre urban park in the First Ward neighborhood of Uptown Charlotte. After a national competition to attract architects, the firm Shadley Associates was selected to build the park.

Romare Bearden Park is a 5.4-acre public park located at 300 S. Church Street in Charlotte, North Carolina. Named for Charlotte born artist Romare Bearden, it opened in late August 2013. It is across the street from Truist Field, the home of the International League’s Charlotte Knights.

Reedy Creek Park is a 125-acre urban park at 2900 Rocky River Road in the Newell section of Charlotte, North Carolina. Adjacent to the park is a 737 acre nature preserve. The main park contains courts and fields for basketball, softball, tennis, soccer, horseshoes, cricket, and volleyball.

Marshall Park is a 5.5-acre urban park at 800 East Third Street in the Second Ward of Charlotte, North Carolina. It features a large fountain and a lake, an amphitheater, a statue of Martin Luther King Jr., and a Holocaust memorial monument.

Latta Park is a 31-acre urban park at 601 East Park Avenue in the Dilworth neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina. It features courts for tennis, volleyball, and basketball, as well as many benches and picnic facilities, playgrounds, walking trails, fitness trails, and soccer fields.

Hornets Nest Park is 140 acres with parking, an 18-hole disc golf course, eight shelters, lake with fishing pier, tournament softball complex, sand volleyball courts, 12 lighted tennis courts, horseshoe pits, basketball courts, restrooms, Play 60 and other playgrounds, and a BMX bicycle track. The David Williamson Jr. Indoor Pavilion can hold up to 80 guests and features lights, water, restrooms, a grill, air conditioning and heat.

Renaissance Park has parking, an 18-hole championship level disc golf course, 6.5 miles of bike trails, seven sand volleyball courts, two softball fields, skate park, restrooms, and a dog park.

Huntersville Athletic Park & Recreation Center Path is 1.7-mile out-and-back trail near Huntersville, North Carolina. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 34 min to complete. This trail is great for hiking, mountain biking, and running, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Robert Caldwell Bradford Park is 170 acres. It has three soccer fields, concession stand, four lighted softball fields, 1 lighted baseball field, bating cage, disc golf course, restrooms, multipurpose field, two shelters, a playground, and parking.
